Gaza health condition catastrophic, cabinet deducts from salaries to meet needThe Palestinian government in Gaza decided on Wednesday to deduct 5% of the salaries of all civil servants to purchase badly needed medications in the Strip.
An official statement at the end of the weekly cabinet meeting said that the Gaza hospitals were facing a serious condition because the authorities in Ramallah were not sending medical supplies to the Strip.
Health minister in Gaza Dr. Basem Naim told representatives of Arab and international donor institutions and human rights groups in an emergency meeting on Tuesday that half of his ministry’s warehouses were empty.
He said that 178 types of medicines no longer existed in the ministry’s stores as well as 190 types of medical consumables.
The minister said that surgeries were reduced to the minimum in all hospitals, warning that they could come to a complete halt within days thus endangering the lives of many patients.
Naim urged all international health and humanitarian institutions to lend a hand and help in overcoming such a catastrophic condition.
